Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim transferred Major General Mostafa al-Baz, deputy minister for prison sector, to the ministry’s main building and replaced him with Major General Mohamed Rateb.
The decision aims to steer the prison sector on a correct path along with several security departments like Minya, Kafr al-Sheikh and Red Sea, Ibrahim told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Wednesday.
A security source explained the decision is based on violations by the prison sector by officials from ex-President Mohamed Morsy’s regime and the Muslim Brotherhood, who have been remanded in custody, pending investigations on charges of inciting violence and murder of protesters in Bein al-Sarayat and Manyal areas, before Republican Guards House and Rabaa al-Adaweya Square.
Informed sources, who preferred anonymity, earlier told Al-Masry Al-Youm that administrations of four prisons, where Brotherhood figures are kept, allow them to do exercises and meet for long hours without control. The former president’s adviser and some Brotherhood figures are also allowed to deliver the Friday prayer sermon inside al-Aqrab prison.
