Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim rejected a request by former head of the Egyptian Federation of Trade Unions to attend the funeral of his
son.
Hussein Megawer is detained pending investigations into the so-called Battle of the Camel, a deadly assault on protesters in Tahrir Square on 2 February last year.
Megawer’s son Mohamed, 31, died after falling from an 11th floor balcony.
Mohamed Megawer is said to have lost his balance and fallen while he was smoking a cigarette, but sources close to the family told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Mohamed was suffering from depression and suggested his death was a suicide.
Former Minister of Interior Mansour al-Essawy previously rejected Megawer's request to attend the funeral of his brother.
