Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said he hopes an immediate decision is issued by the Ministry of Investment to close Al Jazeera Channel in Egypt. He added that the arrest of the Muslim Brotherhood leadership weakened the demonstrations and marches on Friday.
Ibrahim said in a phone-in with Dream Channel on Saturday morning that he hoped the Ministry of Investment issues a decision to shut down Al-Jazeera.
Ibrahim accused Al-Jazeera of conveying a false image of what is happening in Egypt. "Unfortunately, [Al-Jazeera] has [popularity] abroad and is the one forming a public opinion against Egypt," Ibrahim said.
The interior minister said that lawyer Mortada Mansour filed two complaints against Al-Jazeera which are currently being investigated.
Ibrahim said that toppled President Mohamed Morsy issued presidential pardons for people who posed a threat to national security.
Pardons were issued under former colleagues, Ibrahim pointed out. “If I had been in office, I would have objected strongly to the pardons,” he added.
Ibrahim said the arrest of Brotherhood leaders had a negative impact on the demonstrations and marches as it disconnected members of the administrative offices from Brotherhood youth.
The minister stressed that attempts to use weapons against the police will in turn be confronted with weapons.
