Interior Minister Mahmoud Wagdi dismissed on Tuesday senior police officers who had been in charge of security in Cairo during the 25 January uprising and subsequent protests which led to the resignation of former President Hosni Mubarak.
Among those dismissed were Ismail al-Shaaer, head of the Cairo security department, and Adli Fayed, assistant minister for public security, according to state-run media channels.
The firings related to the state of insecurity which prevailed after the 25 January protests. Security officials said that Wagdi will dismiss another senior official close to former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli, who is currently undergoing questioning regarding issues of corruption.
Caretaker Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq earlier decided on the formation of a committee to investigate violence during the protests.
