Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said in a press conference Thursday that there were eight perpetrators of the Mansoura, including the one who carried out the bombing and seven others who planned it, seven of whom have been arrested.
“A laboratory equipped for the manufacture of explosives was found at the house of defendant Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Halim, beside a set of jihadist leaflets compatible with al-Qaeda's ideology, an automatic rifle proven to have been used, after technical inspection, in an attack on Mansoura University checkpoint as well as in the robbery of a jewelry shop in Kafr al-Sheikh,” Ibrahim said.
The security services identified the leader of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis in Cairo–Tawfiq Mohamed Foraig, known as Abu Abdallah. Ibrahim called on citizens who have information about Foraig to inform the security services immediately.
The minister added that seized items included a statement issued by the Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis claiming responsibility for the attempted assassination of Ibrahim, instructions on manufacturing explosives and electrical circuits, laying mines, remote detonation, utensils used in manufacturing explosives and an RPG launcher.
