Industry, health ministers discuss means to maximize investments in localizing pharmaceutical industries

Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel al-Wazir discussed with Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar ways to encourage pharmaceutical factories and maximize investments in the field of localizing the pharmaceutical and medical industry to ensure the provision of quality and effective medicine and support the local industry.

During the meeting, Wazir highlighted the importance of patients obtaining right medicine that complies with the standards of the local and international pharmaceutical industries system, which directly affects the health of citizens and is considered one of the top priorities of the Egyptian government.

It is also a top priority to adhere to special standards in monitoring all stages of the production process, to ensure the quality, and effectiveness of medicines, in accordance with the global requirements for good manufacturing practices and according to the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO), he said.

He noted that the meeting comes within the framework of implementing the directives of President Abdel Fattah al Sisi to focus on supporting industrial development and localizing the pharmaceutical industry, encouraging investment in the pharmaceutical and medical supplies industry, and overcoming any challenges facing the local industry, which will be reflected in providing high-quality medicine at good price that meets the needs of the Egyptian citizen and do not represent a burden on his finances.

The Minister of Industry pointed out the commitment of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) to conducting all necessary periodic, and surprise inspections to monitor all stages of the production process, in cooperation with representatives of the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) in all different types of inspection, through a joint inspection committee.

For his part, the health minister said drug manufacturers in Egypt have achieved many successes, at times when the world has witnessed devastating crises, and at the forefront of these successes, what was achieved during presidential initiative of 100 Million Health, where local drug companies were able to meet the Egyptian state’s need for medicines to treat the hepatitis C virus.
