Inclement weather and high-speed winds have forced the closure of four sea ports in Suez, the Red Sea Port Authority announced Friday.
Major General Mohamed Abdel Qader Gaballah, the head of the port authority, said that ports in the towns of Port Tawfiq, Zayteyat, Adabeya and Ataka were all closed early Friday but are expected to reopen before Saturday midnight, as the weather is expected to calm by then.
Meanwhile, the Alexandria Port Authority announced the continued closure of entrances to the Boughazi and Dekheila straits due to high waves and heavy mists inhibiting visibility.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of continuing unstable weather in the coming days. Ali Qotb, the spokesperson for the authority, told state-run Al-Ahram newspaper that he expects heavy winds and rain in the northeast to continue until Sunday. He added that until then, cold weather will prevail in the daytime folllowed by even colder temperatures at night.
