IMF to review proposed Egyptian budget changes

WASHINGTON–Egypt has informed the International Monetary Fund of plans to revise the country's budget, an IMF spokesman said on Thursday.

IMF spokesman David Hawley told reporters that the IMF was looking into implications of the proposed budget changes for a planned IMF loan accord.

"We will review this together with the authorities, including considering its implications for their request for a fund arrangement," Hawley said.

Egypt has dropped plans to levy a tax on share dividends and is looking for ways to reduce planned expenditures as a result, its finance minister said on 9 June.
