Egyptian border guards arrested 51 Egyptians and Palestinians on a boat aiming to illegally emigrate to Italy, after leaving from the coastal city of Behira.
The defendants, 21 Egyptians from different governorates and 30 Palestinians, were boarding fishing boats from the northern coast of Edco.
When interrogated, the defendants admitted their attempt to illegally immigrate, with the help of two men called Abu Hamada and Abu Khaled. The two men charged LE35,000 for each Egyptian and US$2,800 for each Palestinian to illegally transport them to Italy, according to the defendants.
The 51 defendants were referred to prosecution.
