IED kills suspect, explosions briefly halt railways

An IED carried by two persons on a motorbike went off Wednesday morning on the Ring Road in Giza, killing one of them and wounding the other, the Interior Ministry said.

The Ministry said the wounded perpetrator was caught before he could escape.

In a different incident, two blasts hit the railways between Mansoura and Cairo, halting the trains’ movement for more than two hours, according to Samir Nawwar, head of Egyptian Railways, who was quoted by state-run MENA news agency.

The blasts caused cracks in the rails and a hole in the railroad, Nawwar said, stressing that they left no casualties.

Egypt has been witnessing a surge in bombings against security forces and some public utilities since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy. The government has blamed Morsy’s Muslim Brotherhood for carrying out most of the attacks, which the group denies.
