An IED exploded Sunday under the car of judge Mohamed Abdallah Abbas, head of Khanka Court, which was parked outside his home in Derb Negm city, Sharqiya.
The car was destroyed and no injuries were reported.
Bomb squads headed to the scene of the incident and combed the surrounding area. A claim was filed with the incident and the prosecution took over investigation.
Assassination attempts against Egyptian public officials has increased since the ouster of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood president, Mohamed Morsy, and the subsequent mass trials of Brotherhood members. Many analysts say the attacks from extremists is retaliation against key government figures for the political crackdown against Islamists.
