Two hundred divers plan to form the longest underwater human chain in the Red Sea city of Hurghada. At a depth of 20 meters, the event will take place on Saturday under the supervision of the Ministries of Youth and Sports, and Tourism, and the Egyptian Federation for Diving and Rescue. Divers from different nationalities will take part.
The chain aims to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest human chain of divers, recorded in the UAE by 173 divers, at a depth of 18 meters.
Hassan al-Tayyeb, an organizer, has said that apart from achieving a world record, the event aims to promote tourism and to draw attention to the diving as a sport in Egypt.
The event will be covered by International media, Yayyeb added.
This will not be the first time Hurghada has witnessed a diving world record. In 2015, Egyptian diver Walaa Hafez broke the record for the longest dive — his dive clocking in at 51 hours and 24 minutes.
In 2015, Hurghada also hosted the Guinness World Record for the largest group dive. A team of 400 divers, led by Egyptian diver Ahmed Gabr, took part in the campaign to clean the Red Sea's seabed of waste.
