Hundreds of Islamists took to the streets in governorates across Egypt on Tuesday in support ofPresident Mohamed Morsy.
In Port Said in the Suez Canal region, hundreds protested against the army's Monday statement that gave the president a 48-hour grace period to resolve the current impasse.
Al-Masry Al-Youm's reporter in the city said that marchers responded to a call by Islamist groups which described the statement as "a coup against legitimacy."
In Kafr al-Sheikh, Nile Delta governorate, hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members gathered carrying sticks, marching through the streets.
They chanted slogans hailing Morsy as "the president of the republic."
"Listen [Defense Minister Abdel Fattah] al-Sisi, Morsy is my president," another chant went.
In Qalyubiya, dozens gathered in Banha next to the capital’s stadium to rally in support of Morsy.
Mohsen Radi, secretary of Qalyubiya's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said that parties participating in today’s demonstration included the Salafi-oriented Asala, Jama'a al-Islamiya's Construction and Development Party and the Wasat Party.
Ahmed Zakaria, the local Construction and Development Party secretrary, said that the rally's aim is to “emphasize the respect for the will of the Egyptian people, who elected Mohamed Morsy.”
“The marches demand the armed forces be committed to neutrality, and to do its part defined by the constitution and the law,” Zakaria said.
