The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) will form a fact-finding committee to investigate the sectarian violence that took place around two churches in Imbaba, northwest Cairo, late on Saturday.
In a statement on Sunday, the NCHR condemned the incidents and called for strict procedures against law-breakers in Egypt's transitional period following the 25 January revolution.
The NCHR, founded in 2003 to promote human rights in Egypt, publishes annual human rights reports.
The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information on Sunday also condemned attacks committed against places of worship. In a statement, it warned of the negative effects of sectarian conflict on Egyptian society and the goals of the 25 January revolution.
The statement also said Egyptian authorities should carry out their legal obligation to impose security and penalize law-breakers to prevent similar crimes that threaten social stability.
