Egypt is relentlessly working for supporting the Low Carbon Building Initiative (LCBI), while taking into account the social responsibility for securing affordable housing for low-income households, Assistant Minister of Housing for technical affairs Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim made the remarks while participating in a ministerial meeting for low-carbon buildings, held in Paris as part of the first Buildings and Climate Global Forum, co-organized by France and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), on March 7-8, according to a press release by the ministry on Saturday 16/03/2024.
He said the State is also trying to strike a balance between its social commitments to improve citizens’ quality of life by offering decent housing, and its international commitments to protect the environment, cut harmful emissions, and minimize consumption of essential resources, especially water and energy.
This will require securing necessary funds and raising environmental awareness, Ibrahim added, citing the ministry’s efforts in support of a national green finance and capacity-building initiative, as part of a set of measures aimed at supporting LCBI.
LCBI is a pan-European association created in 2022 aiming at lowering carbon emissions in the real-estate industry. It seeks to create the first pan-European low carbon label measuring the carbon footprint of real estate based on a Life-Cycle Analysis.
About 800 participants attended the first Buildings and Climate Global Forum where CEO and ministerial round tables, plenary sessions, solution exhibitions, collective initiative showcases and presentations provided participants with the opportunity to build new contacts and exchange ideas.
Governments were invited to endorse a framework for global efforts in the building sector for decarbonization and resilience to climate change.
