Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif al-Sherbiny and Governor of South Sinai Khaled Mubarak on Monday inspected the upgrade work being done against flood hazards on the St. Catherine Airport Road – Nabi Saleh checkpoint, which covers a length of nine km.
The minister and the governor toured the implementation site of the St. Catherine Airport Road project, to follow up on the progress of work and ensure adherence to the specified implementation schedule.
They listened to a detailed explanation about the status of road implementation and works, the status of flood protection work, and the implementation of lighting and signboard work.
They also inspected the Zeituna area in St. Catherine, part of the “Great Transfiguration” site development project.
The area includes 21 residential complexes containing 564 units, with 26 units in each complex. In addition, the area includes service facilities that aim to provide an integrated environment for residents.
The minister stressed the need to intensify efforts and work around the clock to ensure the project is completed on time.
The Great Transfiguration
The “Great Transfiguration” project aims to develop St. Catherine into a spiritual and touristic destination, given its religious and historical status.
The governor reviewed the coordination between the implementing and supervising agencies, with instructions to adhere to the security, environmental, tourism, heritage, and archaeological standards of the project.
Mubarak noted that the project adheres to national and international standards to protect the cultural and historical heritage of the St. Catherine area, which is registered on the World Heritage List.
The governor highlighted his orders to the implementing agencies on the importance of integrating the local community into the project, as global excellence begins with focusing on local heritage and investing in it to achieve national and international standards.
Mubarak pointed out that the Great Transfiguration Project is one of the most important tourism development projects in Egypt, and aims to transform the city of Saint Catherine into a distinguished global tourist destination, especially regarding religious, environmental, heritage, and historical tourism.
