The Freedom and Justice Party parliamentary bloc has officially withdrawn its effort to withdraw confidence in the Cabinet, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. The Brotherhood party described the decision as a “return of friendly ties between the Cabinet and Parliament.”
“We have totally forgotten this,” Al-Masry Al-Youm quoted FJP Vice President Essam al-Erian as saying, referring to the party’s previous effort toward a no-confidence vote.
Erian said the party would not pressure its members to withdraw their questions for the Cabinet, and that “it is up to them and their personal convictions as to whether to question the Cabinet or not.”
On 29 April, the People’s Assembly suspended its sessions for a week to protest the fact that the ministers remained, even though the assembly had rejected Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri’s February statement to Parliament on the Cabinet’s performance.
A number of MPs also accused the Cabinet of fabricating shortages and failing to address the lack of security.
Ganzouri since changed some ministers, appointing Higher Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Hamid al-Nashar, Culture Minister Mohamed Saber Arab, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Omar Mahmoud Salem and Manpower Minister Refaat Mohamed Hassan.
