In a historic event long awaited by football fans, the Al-Ahly Club’s Board of Directors headed by Mahmoud al-Khatib, visited Zamalek Club on Monday after a break that lasted about 15 years – the last visit of the Reds Council to the White Castle having been in 2009.
Ahly’s board visit strengthened its relationship with Zamalek Club, after Khatib responded to the invitation of the Chairman of Zamalek Club Hussein Labib at the headquarters of the White Castle in Mit Oqba area.
The Zamalek Board of directors received its Red counterpart as Khatib and his board exchanged greetings with their counterparts in Zamalek, a moment representing new peace between Egypt’s biggest football clubs.
During the visit, Khatib received the shield and flag of Zamalek, and in turn presented the shield and flag of Ahly club to Labib.
Khatib thanked the Zamalek board for the invitation, saying: “I extend all my thanks to the Zamalek board for its generous invitation. We are happy to visit the Zamalek Club, as Zamalek is a great sporting castle.”
“The relationship between Ahly and Zamalek is very good, and has roots and mutual respect, even if some unusual things happen. Our relationship with Zamalek will remain distinguished and no one’s behavior will harm it.”
“We call on the fans of Ahly, Zamalek, and all Egyptian clubs to reject fanaticism, and for the competition to be on the field only… Egypt’s interest comes before anything else. Our country at this time needs everyone to come together. Our actions and decisions as officials must help to reject fanaticism,” he concluded.
