Higher Education Min. Affirms Significance of Cooperation with Int’l Institutions

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour asserted the significance of boosting scientific and research cooperation with international institutions, in order to foster efforts meant to upgrade Egypt’s educational and research system.

Advisor to Minister of Higher Education for Technical and Technological Education Affairs Ahmed al-Sabagh held a meeting, on Saturday 23/12/2023, with a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss cooperation in adopting the Kosen system for engineering and technological education, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Sabagh hailed the effective role of JICA and its cooperation with the Higher Education in a set of joint projects.

He underscored the importance of maintaining such a cooperation towards supporting Egypt’s technical and technological education.

Established in 1961, KOSEN is a five-year engineering education system accepting students from 15 years old. It was established in response to a strong demand from industrial sector to foster engineers who sustain Japanese high economic growth at that time.

Kosen offers education programs that develop hands-on engineers who acquired world-class expertise and can handle the latest technology, with a focus on lab work, practical work and hands-on exercises as well as having advanced theoretical knowledge.

Though most departments in Kosen are related to the industrial field, department on mercantile marine that aim to develop mariners are also available. Graduates of Kosen are awarded an “associate degree.”
