Mahmoud Essmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, accompanied by members of the House of Representatives’ Energy and Environment Committee, headed by Representative Talaat El-Sweidy, conducted a field visit today, Friday, to the High Dam Power Station, which is affiliated with the Hydroelectric Power Plants Company in Aswan Governorate.

The purpose of the visit was to inspect the progress of work and follow up on the implementation of the development and replacement project for the power station’s transformers.

This project aims to increase the production capacity from 2100 megawatts to 2400 megawatts, representing a 300-megawatt increase in clean energy. Additionally, the project is expected to achieve annual fuel savings equivalent to $269 million, and extend the productive life and maintain the operational level of the High Dam Power Station as one of the clean energy sources.

Essmat stated that the updated national energy strategy aims to reach 42% of the total generated energy from renewable sources by 2030 and 65% by 2040.

The minister emphasized that the state pays great attention to hydroelectric power plants, especially the High Dam Power Station.

He added, “As we commemorate the 54th anniversary of the opening of the High Dam and its power station, our presence here today is to follow up on one of the development and replacement projects that are being implemented as part of an ongoing and continuous development process to maintain the productive life, increase the generated energy, and ensure operational efficiency.”
