Hezbollah issued a statement on Saturday on the recent clashes in Syria which have led to the death of hundreds of security forces and members of the Alawites, the sect of ousted Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad.
The party denied any connection to the events, and stressed in a statement that: “Some parties are eager to drag Hezbollah’s name into the events taking place in Syria and accuse it of being a party to the ongoing conflict there.”
It continued: “Hezbollah clearly and categorically denies these baseless allegations,” urged media to always be accurate in reporting news and not be drawn into misleading campaigns that serve political goals and foreign agendas.
Hezbollah has supported Assad’s regime since the first major uprising against Assad in 2011.
The Syrian coast has been wracked by violent clashes since Thursday, beginning with an attack by armed groups on checkpoints belonging to the Syrian security services which left 15 people dead.
