The Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) summoned journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, who said in an interview that was published in Al-Ahram newspaper that the wealth of deposed President Hosni Mubarak ranges between US$9 billion and US$11 billion, an estimate which does not tally with IGA figures.
Heikal said that he took the figures from reports by international news agencies, and that it is up to the competent authorities to verify them.
“Any notifications on the wealth of certain people should be supported by reliable documents so as not to confuse the public,” said IGA President Assem al-Gohari, calling on the media to carefully scrutinize information before publishing or broadcasting it.
