Heavy rains, thunder and khamaseen winds – Egypt sees stormy weather for next 72 hours

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of unstable weather within the next 72 hours, with potential for thundershowers and active Khamaseen winds which will impact visibility over the Western Desert and the New Valley Governorate.

Weather maps revealed activity of the winds over the open areas and the northwestern coasts, with sand and dust storms in northern Lower Egypt and northern Upper Egypt.

Meteorologists also warned of high temperatures in Greater Cairo, up to 35C during daylight hours.

They advised citizens to avoid exposure to sunlight, stay well-hydrated, wear cotton clothes and facemasks to prevent inhalation of dust.

 

Weather forecast on Sunday:

Opportunities for rainfall to the point of thunderstorms in three areas of the northwestern coasts (Salloum – Matrouh – al-Dabaa).

Winds will be active on the open areas and the northwestern coasts, blowing up sand and dust in northern Lower Egypt and northern Upper Egypt at intermittent intervals.

Meteorologists recommended to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours (from one to four in the afternoon) to avoid sunstroke, and wear head coverings against the sunlight.

 

Temperatures on Sunday:

North Coast: 31C

Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt: 35C

Northern Upper Egypt: 37C

Southern Upper Egypt: 38C
