Alexandria governorate has been hit by a wave of lightning and thunder accompanied by heavy rains, since the early hours of Sunday morning, which affected pedestrians and vehicles, businesses and schools, while closure of Alexandria and Dekheila straits continued for the second day in a row.
The spokesperson for the Alexandria Port Authority, Reda al-Ghandour said that the decision to close the Alexandria and Dekheila straits was taken in order to maintain the safety of maritime navigation; and to avoid collisions of ships due to increased wind speed and high altitudes of waves.
Meanwhile, the Alexandria Governorate, its executive bodies and sanitation company announced a state of emergency. To facilitate the passage of citizens, the authorities are working to remove any water that has accumulated under bridges, and in some streets and squares.
In addition, the Alexandria Security Directorate has intensified all traffic services to achieve liquidity and ease any traffic congestion.
Alexandria has been witnessing bad weather and rainfall since Thursday, accompanied by northwesterly winds.
