Meteorologists have issued a heatwave warning, saying that very hot weather will strike Egypt on Monday and continue for around 72 hours.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority said that extreme heat coming from the Arabian Peninsula and Western Desert will strike the east, especially in Upper Egypt.
“Wind is expected to whip up sand and dust during the heatwave across the west and south of the country, which could involve storms in some places. The peak of the heatwave will be on Monday and Tuesday, with maximum temperatures in Cairo will reaching 42 degrees, while two higher degrees will be recorded in central Upper Egypt. Weather in the south will be extremely hot,” the statement said.
The statement advises citizens to avoid direct exposure to the sun and avoid walking long distances at noon. They are also advised to eat some fruits like bananas in order to make up for the liquids that their bodies lose. It’s better to protect the heads against sun rays using umbrellas.
