Heat wave to start in Egypt Friday: meteorologist

Starting next Friday, a rise in weather temperatures by about 3C is expected and the peak of the heat wave will be on Saturday, all over Egypt.

Very hot temperatures are predicted in southern Upper Egypt at 44C, Manar Ghanem, a member of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority’s media center, said.

“The heat wave will continue from Friday until Sunday, so we advise citizens during this period to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, especially in the afternoon, since it is the period in which the highest temperatures are recorded,” Ghanem said.

After the heat wave ends, temperatures are expected to return to normal rates for about a week to range between 30C and 32C in daylight.

On Wednesday the maximum temperature in Cairo is 30C, which is a normal rate at this time of the year, when Egypt is affected by masses of air coming from the Mediterranean, she said.

Ghanem explained, during a phone call yo “Sabah Al Khair Ya Masr” (Good Morning Egypt) program, broadcast on the State TV, that during the night, maximum temperatures range between 18C and 19C until Thursday.

She predicted fog in the early morning, and active wind in the evening.
