Heat wave in Egypt to improve as temperatures drop by 5C: EMA

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) on Sunday announced that the heat wave across the country will begin to subside as temperatures drop by up to five degrees.

Weather maps showed the incursion of an air mass, bringing temperatures down to reach 18C during the night hours in the city of St. Catherine.

Wind activity is expected across most of the country – especially during the night hours in the northern coast, Matrouh, and the coastal governorates.

Temperatures will also drop in the middle of the Delta, Cairo, Beni Suef, Fayoum, and Minya, however the weather will remain hot and temperatures continue to be above average in the regions of Upper Egypt (from Assiut to Aswan).

The EMA said that temperatures will drop on Sunday by about five degrees in the regions of the northern Delta, Lower Egypt, Cairo, and Sohag, with a decrease of three degrees in southern Upper Egypt.

The authority warned of disturbances in maritime navigation on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, and wind speeds. Wave heights in Matrouh, the North Coast, and Alexandria are expected to be around 1.5 to two meters.

Wind activity across the country may stir up sand and dust at intermittent intervals.

The EMA advised patients with chest and sinus allergies wear facemasks to prevent the inhalation of dust.
