Heat wave hits Egypt starting Wednesday: meteorologist

A five-day heat wave is set to hit Egypt starting Wednesday, Undersecretary of the Remote Sensing Center at the Meteorological Authority Iman Shaker said.

Shaker added, during an interview with Extra News Channel, that temperatures will gradually rise between Wednesday and Sunday, with highs in Cairo reaching 36C. Rising temperatures and active winds will continue through the middle of May.

Shaker called on the public to avoid direct sunlight during the day to avoid heat stroke or extreme thirst during fasting hours.

Shaker asked those who are fasting to drink large amounts of water during Suhur periods, and warned against eating sweet and salty food that will contribute to thirst.

Egypt’s Meteorological Authority confirmed that there will be no dust storms during the coming days until the middle of next week, and said that the second half of Ramadan, temperatures will fluctuate between high and low.
