Two people have been killed and 14 others injured so far in protests on Friday 28 November in different governorates, said Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar Friday afternoon.
Six were injured in Sharqiya after a bomb was thrown at an armored vehicle, Abdel Ghaffar said. The injured were transferred to hospital. The rest were injured in protests in other governorates, Abdel Ghaffar added.
Abdel Ghaffar explained the two confirmed deaths in Matariya were an army brigadier and a 42-year-old man in clashes between protesters and the security forces.
Security forces attacked demonstrations in Matariya using live ammunition in the afternoon, killing three protesters and injuring dozens others, the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party news portal reported Friday.
One of the protesters shot dead by security forces was called Mohamed Hassan, website added.
A protester was killed Friday in the Cairo suburb of Matariya, deputy chief of Matariya police station said earlier.
He was shot in the chest, following clashes between security forces and the protesters in Matariya's al-Horreya Street, according to Aswat Masriya.
Egypt's ultra-conservative Salafi Front, called on people to take to the streets holding Qurans to "impose the Islamic identity." The rallies were scheduled to take off from several mosques in Egypt after Friday prayers, according to their official Facebook page.
An army brigadier was killed and two others were injured earlier on Friday after unidentified assailants shot them at Gesr al-Suez area in Cairo, the armed forces said in a statement.
A police officer and three soldiers were also injured in a bomb blast in Sharqiya Friday.
Security apparatus across Egypt have raised their state of alert in main cities and squares in anticipation of the protests.
