In an official report on Thursday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health revealed the symptoms of the black fungus disease, explaining the causes of infection with this disease, and the ministry’s preparations to confront the coronavirus and other infectious diseases.
The black fungus symptoms as stated by the ministry include:
– Fever
– Coughing
– Chest pain
– Shortness of breath
– Swelling on the side of the face
– Sinus congestion
– Abdominal pain
– Vomiting and nausea.
– Bleeding in the digestive system, blood in the stool, and diarrhea.
The ministry reassured citizens about the black fungus disease, pointing out that “it is not contagious, occurs only rarely, and has nothing to do with the coronavirus.”
The most at-risk groups for contracting the black fungus disease as follows:
– Patients with diabetes, especially diabetic coma associated with the acidity of the blood
– Patients with late-stage cancer
– AIDS patients
– Patients who have received organ transplants or stem cell transplants
– IV drug users
– Burn and post-op patients, amputees, and low-birth-weight newborns
The ministry also warned against the excessive use of cortisone for long periods, naming it as one of the most important causes of black fungus.
The ministry stated that the infection is caused by some types of fungi which belong to the group of molds and live in moist environments, such as in soil and fertilizer.
The ministry pointed out that it continues to raise the maximum levels of preparedness in all hospitals to follow up on the epidemiological situation, and is taking all measures to prevent the virus and other infectious diseases.
The ministry called on citizens to seek care at an early stage in the event that any symptoms of the coronavirus show, especially if the sick person is elderly or has a chronic illness.
