Health Ministry: Hospitals have released those injured in Parliament standoff

Egypt's hospitals have released those injured during Tuesday’s Parliament standoff, the Health Ministry has said. The ministry recorded 131 injuries.

In a statement obtained by Egypt Independent, Khaled al-Khateeb, head of the central administration for critical and emergency care, said 30 cases were transferred to the hospitals of Ahmed Maher, Qasr al-Aini, French Qasr al-Aini and Moqattam. Injuries included fractures and bruises.

Forty-one were treated in ambulances, and 60 were treated in mobile clinics near Tahrir Square.

On Tuesday, Muslim Brotherhood members prevented hundreds of protesters from reaching the Parliament building in downtown Cairo as part of the so-called “Tuesday of Determination” demonstrations.

At least seven marches had headed to the Parliament building, as demonstrators demanded the transfer of power from the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces faster than the current timetable proposes. Hundreds of students from Cairo and Ain Shams Universities marched to Tahrir Square to participate in the protests.
