The Health Ministry said on Tuesday that a doctor was arrested at his clinic in Shubra al-Kheima on charges of selling boxes of counterfeit Sovaldi, the expensive US-made medicine for hepatitis C.
The ministry said he was caught in the possession of 16 boxes of the counterfeit drug.
The Doctors Syndicate said it received a complaint against the doctor who sold a box of the counterfeit drug for LE7000.
Health Minister Adel Adawy immediately notified the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Medical Institutions, the Licenses Department, the Pharmaceutical Inspection Department and the Interior Ministry to take legal action against the doctor and close the clinic.
