Health Ministry denies rumors spread online of disease outbreak in Giza

The Health and Population Ministry in Egypt on Friday responded to social media rumors claiming that an epidemic disease has spread in the Giza Governorate.

During a phone call with the privately-owned Sada el-Balad channel, Abdel-Ghaffar denied the existence of any disease or any epidemic outbreak within a Giza village.

He said that a team from the Preventive Medicine Sector moved to the village of al-Qobayat in Atfih City, affiliated with Giza Governorate mentioned in one of the reports spread online, to clarify the truth.

Abdel-Ghaffar explained that the drinking water there was tested and its safety was confirmed, alongside the good health of all the residents of the Qobayat village.

The spokesperson assured that there is no epidemic outbreak, stressing that the Preventive Medicine Sector confirmed that there is no one in the hospitals suffering from any of the symptoms mentioned online.

The number of reported visits to hospitals is normal, he added, with no increase or overcrowding of cases.

He explained that the currently widespread diseases are respiratory illnesses, which usually affect Egyptians at this time due to the change of seasons with most cases being the common cold.
