Health Ministry declares emergency in hospitals, cancels vacations until after referendum

Health Minister Maha al-Rabbat has declared a state of emergency in all public hospitals nationwide and cancelled vacations for doctors until the end of the constitutional referendum.
 
The minister also cancelled her trip to Qaliubiya to inaugurate the Nasser General Hospital on Tuesday and went with a medical team to Mansoura to examine the victims who were wounded in the car bombing outside the Security Directorate.
 
An official accompanying the minister said that there was a shortage of blood bags in Mansoura, and that Rabbat ordered additional quantities and more medical supplies from neighboring cities to be delivered to the hospitals treating the victims.
 
Dr. Khaled al-Khatib, head of the Central Emergency Administration, said 13 people died and 133 were injured in the incident, in addition to dozens that received first aid treatment on location.
 
He said 62 were treated and released from the hospitals, while 36 others are still under treatment and observation in Mansoura International University, and three were transferred to the Maadi Military Hospital.
