The number of victims from the bus accident on Zaafarana-Ras Ghareb Road reached eight, while 29 others were injured, the Health Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
The injured were transferred to the Ras Ghareb Central Hospital, while three were transferred to Hurghada Hospital and another to Gouna Hospital.
Hossam Gamil, general director of the Red Sea Ambulance Department, said that the number of victims reached nine, while the injured reached 30 by 10 AM on Sunday.
Civil protection forces started removing the bus debris in search for further victims or injured, while ambulances continued transferring the wounded and the dead to Ras Ghareb Hospital, he added.
The Hurghada and Ras Ghareb hospitals have been on high alert, he said. There are numerous injuries.
Eyewitnesses said that the ambulances transferred around 30 injured passengers from the bus which overturned on the road to Ras Ghareb Hospital and that nine dead were also transferred. The final number of the victims and injured has not been confirmed yet.
Medical sources from the hospital said several ambulances arrived at the hospital carrying 15 injured persons.
Gamil said the department was notified about the accident at 2 PM on Sunday.
The Ras Ghareb Hospital and other hospitals in the vicinity provided ambulances.
According to preliminary information, the bus was heading from Cairo to Hurghada. The accident took place 25 kilometers south of the Zaafarana-Hurghada Road entrance.
Many road crashes in Egypt are blamed on reckless driving, lax traffic rules and poor road conditions.
