Khaled al-Khatib, the Health Ministry’s emergency services chief, has said 53 people were killed in violence which erupted Sunday amid celebrations of Egypt's part in the 6 October War against Israel.
Khatib added that 271 people were injured in street violence which saw security forces and local residents clash with anti-coup protesters throughout Cairo and the rest of the country.
Most of the victims were killed in Cairo, Giza, Minya and Beni Suef.
