Health Minister Adel al-Adawy headed a meeting of the new Higher Committee for Organ Transplant to stress the importance of organ transplant which alleviates the suffering of patients with kidney failure as well as liver and other organ diseases.
Adawy said the committee should put special controls for organizing and rationing means of stem cell therapy in accordance with international standards and to identify means of treatment that have been internationally approved and those still under research and experiments.
The committee discussed the situation of corneal banks in the Egypt set a timetable of three months to define the obstacles preventing them from playing a significant role in transplants in Egypt.
Adawy also said the government must closely monitor licensed organ transplant centers.
He pointed out that the role of the committee is not just limited to developing rules and strategies that enable the patient to obtain health service in accordance with international standards, but also extends to banning all abusive and criminalized practices such as organ trafficking.
