Chairman of the Chamber of Engineering Industries Hamdy Abdel Aziz criticized the absence of cars checks on a regular basis, which leads to road accidents and a high number of victims.
A collision between a school bus and three other vehicles in Beheira Wednesday has left 18 students dead. The deceased could hardly be identified as several bodies were charred in a consequent fire.
Abdel Aziz stressed the accident would not be the last of its kind amid the absence of the technical examination of vehicles in Egypt.
Abdel Aziz told Al-Masry Al-Youm that technical defects in cars were responsible for around 60 percent of the accidents. He pointed out that there are global technical specifications began to be applied to domestically produced cars since 2010, although imported cars are not subject to the same specifications, allowing the flow disqualified cars on market.
Abdel Aziz said that there are types of disqualified cars imported from Europe but are not allowed on European streets.
Nearly 100,000 car accidents took place from 2008 to 2012, leaving nearly 33,000 dead and 155,000 injured, according to a government report released in March.
