White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced on Wednesday that “President Trump has said that our country will not fund the reconstruction of Gaza and that his administration will work with our partners in the region on this.”
“Trump expects our partners, especially Egypt and Jordan, to accept the Palestinians temporarily until we rebuild their homeland,” she stressed.
Leavitt’s statements serve to fan down Trump’s earlier statements regarding the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza Strip to other countries and controlling Gaza in order to establish a resort similar to the “Riviera.”
Leavitt continued: “President Trump is committed to eliminating Hamas and ensuring lasting peace for the entire region.”
“Mexico and Canada have taken steps to control the border and stop drug smuggling, and the days of weakness in the United States are over.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that, “The people of Gaza will have to live somewhere while the Strip is rebuilt.”
He added in press statements that “What Trump offered is the US’ readiness to bear responsibility for rebuilding Gaza.”
“The details of Trump’s plan for Gaza must be agreed upon, and Trump’s offer for Gaza is unique and must be considered.”
He assured that “Trump’s plan for Gaza was not intended to be a hostile move.”
Egypt harshly rejects proposal
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has stressed Egypt’s absolute rejection of the displacement of the people of Gaza, stressing: “I say it with utmost frankness – the displacement and deportation of the Palestinian people is an injustice in which we cannot participate.”
He stressed Egypt’s consistent position supporting the Palestinian cause, which can never be relinquished in any way.
During a joint press conference with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto at the Ettehadiya Presidential Palace in late January, President Sisi added: “If I asked for this from the Egyptian people, they would all take to the streets and tell me no, do not participate in injustice.”
He pointed out that the solution is to establish a Palestinian state with historical rights on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Sisi continued that there are historical rights that cannot be ignored, and Egyptian, Arab and international public opinion believes that there has been a historical injustice occurring against the Palestinian people for 70 years – one that Egypt will take no part in.
The President stressed that it is absolutely impossible to be lenient or allow anything that impacts Egyptian and Arab national security, stressing that Egypt is determined to work with US President Donald Trump to reach the desired peace based on the two-state solution.
Egypt has categorically renewed its rejection of the displacement of Palestinians and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty called for sustaining the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, consolidating it and implementing its three stages, and the importance of having the Palestinian people remain on their land and maintain their right to self-determination.
