Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, at a press conference Wednesday with Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Nazif, said his government rejected “any foreign interference in Egypt’s internal affairs,” pointing out that Beirut was keen on maintaining the best possible relations with Cairo.
On the role of Lebanese resistance party Hizbullah, Hariri stressed that Lebanon was a democracy and that elections brought different political trends into the government, of which Hezbollah was one.
“But this doesn’t mean Hizbullah can single-handedly play a role in foreign affairs, since this is the responsibility of the government as a whole,” he explained.
Nazif, for his part, announced that Egypt and Lebanon had agreed to increase bilateral trade from US$500 million to US$1 billion by 2012.
