Egyptian table tennis player Hana Gouda, 15, defeated Africa’s top female table tennis player Dina Meshref with a score of 4-1.
With this victory, Gouda is now the youngest player to win the African Table tennis Championships, having bested the vastly skilled Meshref.
The Egyptian table tennis team was able to achieve great success in the tournament, as both the women’s and the men’s teams crowned champions of the African Table tennis Championships.
Egypt proved victorious in the final team match against Nigeria with a score of 3-0 in the women’s category, and the same result in the men’s category.
The men’s team includes players such as Omar Asr, Mohamed al-Baily, Youssef Abdel Aziz, Ahmed Saleh, and Khaled Asr. The women’s team includes Meshref, Gouda, Yousra Helmy, and Maryam and Marwa al-Hudaibi.
A young champion
Gouda, who is the Al-Ahly Club and Egyptian national team table tennis player, topped the world rankings for women under 15 years of age for the first time in January 2021, an unprecedented achievement by any Egyptian table tennis player.
She also advanced to the 12th place in the world rankings U-17, and the 21st place in the world rankings U-21.
Gouda began playing table tennis at the age of four, and recently won the Table Tennis International Championship in the U-12 and U-15 competitions in Portugal, and the bronze medal in the Intercontinental World Championship, in an unprecedented achievement in the history of table tennis in Egypt.
