Hamas leader, mastermind of “Al-Aqsa Flood” Yahya Sinwar killed in Gaza: Israel confirms

The Israeli occupation army announced the assassination of Yahya Sinwar, head of the political bureau of Hamas, on Thursday.

Since the outbreak of Gaza war in October 7, 2023, Sinwar’s personality has sparked widespread controversy, especially after Israel considered him the mastermind and executor of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation.

Sinwar was born in 1962 in Khan Younis, Yahya al-Sinwar is 61 years old.

He founded the Hamas security apparatus with the Stones Intifada, which manages internal security affairs, before he was arrested by the occupation army.

He was arrested three times, and after his third arrest in 1988, he was sentenced to four life sentences. He was released along with more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in 2011, in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been held in Gaza for five years.

Afterwards, he returned to Gaza and was appointed head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip in 2017 and then head of the movement’s political bureau after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh last July.

Sinwar played an important and pivotal role in the war and hostage release negotiations. He was the main and most prominent target on Israel’s assassination list.
