The Hamas movement issued a statement praising Egypt’s position regarding the Salah al-Din “Philadelphia” axis.
The media advisor to the head of the Hamas political bureau, Taher al-Nono, said, “The movement appreciates the stance of Egypt regarding the occupation’s threats regarding the Salah al-Din (Philadelphia) axis, which expresses the importance of the Egyptian role and its influence in supporting and assisting our Palestinian people in this historic battle and stopping the brutal aggression against which our people in particular are exposed in Gaza.”
This comes after a statement issued by the official Egyptian Information Service, in which it confirmed that any Israeli move towards occupying the Philadelphia axis in the Gaza Strip will pose a serious threat to Egyptian-Israeli relations.
The head of the commission, Diaa Rashwan, said that several recent statements by Israeli officials led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu contain “false claims and accusations”, such as smuggling operations for weapons, explosives, ammunition and their components into the Gaza Strip from Egyptian territory, RT Arabic reported.
The Egyptian official called on Israel to conduct serious investigations within its army, state agencies, and sectors of society, to search for those truly involved in smuggling weapons into the Gaza Strip.
He considered that Israel’s persistence in marketing these lies is an attempt to create legitimacy for its endeavor to occupy the Philadelphia axis, in violation of the security agreements and protocols signed between it and Egypt.
Rashwan warned that though Egypt is a country that respects its international obligations, it is capable of defending its interests and sovereignty over its land and borders against any threat.
