Hamas denounces espionage accusations against Morsy

Hamas has denounced the trial of deposed President Mohamed Morsy over accusations of spying for it.

Hamas spokesman Salah Bardawil told the Turkish Anadolu news agency on Sunday that “Hamas does not intervene within Egyptian local affairs, but it cares about Hamas being considered by the Egyptian government as an enemy.”

“How dare the Egyptian judiciary. And how would the Egyptian government dare to consider the Palestinian resistance an enemy and a hostile entity?” he added.

Hamas is the Palestinian extension of the Muslim Brotherhood group. Morsy, along with other Brotherhood members, face charges of spying for Hamas during the January revolution in 2011, which led to the ouster of toppled President Hosni Mubarak, helping Hamas inmates in Egypt escape and conspiring with the movement to carry out violence in Egypt.
