Habib al-Adly photo restored to Police Academy ‘board of honor’

The Police Academy has restored the photo of ex-Interior Minister Habib al-Adly to a board featuring all of Egypt’s interior ministers since 1878.

The picture was removed in August when Adly and six of his aides were put on trial alongside former President Hosni Mubarak and his sons Alaa and Gamal over charges of killing protesters during the 25 January uprising.

Adly's picture is placed under those of Mahmoud Wagdy and Manosur al-Essawy, the two former ministers who succeeded Adly, and current Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim. The photos are arranged in a pyramid to indicate their chronological order.

Adly is serving a 12-year prison sentence for fraud and money laundering, and is still facing trial for ordering police to use live ammunition on protesters during the uprising.

A photo of ousted President Hosni Mubarak was taken off the walls of the academy on 1 August 2011, two days before Mubarak’s trial began there.
