Habbara death sentence upheld, Sisi has final say

The Court of Cassation issued on Monday a final ruling upholding the execution of Adel Habbara, who stands accused of murdering a police detective in Abu Kabir, Sharqiya governorate.

This final ruling can no longer be appealed.

The criminal court of Zagazig had ordered the execution of Habbara in this case on charges of premeditated murder using a firearm.

The Court of Cassation upheld the Habbara's execution decision on Saturday, as well as for the "second Rafah massacre."

Habbara is on trial for two other accusations, including "insulting the judiciary" and an attempted escape during deportation.

A judicial source told Aswat Masriya that the law stipulates that the final ruling on Habbara's death sentence requires the approval of the president of the republic before being executed.

The source added that the president has the right, in accordance with the law, to mitigate or cancel the death sentence.
