Three unidentified gunmen attacked a prisoner-transport vehicle in Cairo’s Ayyat district, killing one police officer and injuring four policemen and five convicts.
The gunmen fled the scene after freeing a prisoner named Ahmed Selim.
According to security sources, the perpetrators–using a pickup truck for the operation–shot randomly at the policemen that had been guarding the prisoners.
Preliminary investigations have revealed the gunmen to be relatives of the escapee, who had been convicted in a drug-trafficking case.
