Unknown gunmen fired at an army checkpoint in Remaya Square in Giza, according to the area's investigations department chief, Major General Mohamed al-Sharqawy.
Security troops followed the gunmen and exchanged fire with them on Monday but failed to arrest them, Sharqawy told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Joint police and armed forces were on high alert near Haram, Hada’eq al-Ahram, Remaya Square and Kerdasa in an attempt to arrest them. No injuries were reported.
