Gunmen attack armed forces at New Valley

Unknown gunmen fired shots on Saturday at an armed forces security point located 100 km away from al-Farafera area in the New Valley governorate. Security personnel responded by exchanging fire.

Security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the attackers used SUVs to carry out the attack. They then escaped into the surrounding mountain areas.

Sources said the attack was likely a response to security troops arresting four smugglers two days earlier for possessing 12,000 smuggled cigarette cartons.

Military jets, according to sources, will be used to comb the areas to arrest the criminals.

No losses have been reported from the attack.
