The Grand Egyptian Museum, still under construction, received Wednesday 312 artifacts that will be showcased to visitors at the facility, which is expected to be completed in 2022.
Tareq Tawfiq, an Antiquities Ministry official in charge of the museum’s project, said 275 of the pieces were transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, while the remaining 37 came from the Giza Pyramids area.
The new arrivals had been subjected to initial conservations and casing using “state-of-the-art” techniques, according to Eissa Zeidan, chief conservator at the museum.
Last month, museum officials said a 3,000-year-old limestone mural was received by the museum from the Pyramids area.
In November, ministry officials said they had begun transferring 3,000 antique pieces from its storehouses in Luxor, including 600 from the tomb of famed Tutankhamun that were never exhibited.
